The thing I love about San Francisco is that there’s never a dull moment here. Sure, it’s a quiet city compared to many of the big guns, but what makes me fall in love with the city over and over again is the endless array of insanely gorgeous yet non-intimidating stores you can find in any neighborhood. This one happens to be in mine.
Heath Ceramics occupies a light-filled warehouse where the Mission meets Potrero Hill (invariably, for an IPA). This is where their stunning tiles are made; they produce all other ceramics at their Sausalito studio, the original location where it all began in 1948. Founded by potter Edith Heath, it is now owned by Robin Petravic and partner Catherine Bailey. I met Catherine during my visit along with their newfie Carlo, who is so adored that he even has his own Instagram page and following. What a big, furry bundle o’ love.
Let’s start the tour, shall we?
The elegant designs instantly strike you as you wander through the colorful and perfectly arranged shelves. It’s obvious that each piece was handled with meticulous care and attention to detail.
Right up my Mid-century modern alley.
They also carry limited edition furniture and home decor.
Sorry, that chair is mine. Even at $1,300. Maybe.
This Olli lounger is $3,900. AND OUT OF STOCK. Correction: it is in stock as I was just informed by Joanne at Olli. Thanks Joanne!
Breathtaking lights adorn the ceilings…
….as well as Stan Bitters birdhouses with tantalizing textures.
Trust me, you “want to go to there” (if you get this reference, I heart you).
